Fall At The Farmers Market

Fall At The Farmers Market

On Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 1114 Wicker Street (Wicker Wood) near the Walmart entrance, the Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market is where you want to be if you are looking to access fresh local fruits and vegetables, meats, eggs, honey and maple syrup. The Farmers and vendors are proud to present their bounty, a plethora of products that change as the growing season evolves.

“As temperatures cool and leaves change color, the harvest transforms right along with the season”, stated June Curtis, Market Advisor.  “Fall root vegetables, pumpkins and apples make their way to the farmers’ stands, making it a great time to be shopping in the open-air market. It’s important to learn that the Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market has enjoyed a remarkable season so far with a notable increase in local patrons. While the seasonal consumers are most welcome and necessary for growth of the market, it is felt that the local consumer is essential for sustainability.”  This year the market operates through October 13th, offering autumn markets over the next several weeks.

“A Fall Make & Take is scheduled for September 8th and Harvest Fest is scheduled for September 15th with pumpkin decorating at the kid’s zone”, offered Carol Wood, Market Manager.  “With pumpkin decorating being one of the highlights of Fall, you are reminded to gather the kids and their friends and make the market a Saturday morning destination. And Sometimes Three”, a local trio, will return on September 22nd with the promise of some lively tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s: some blues, folk, country, pop, and more.  The music of Jessica Stoddard, Lance Clark and Mike Donahue adds a dimension of sound and feeling, enhancing the market experience. And don’t forget we have a kid’s craft activity at every market! Always fun!”

The Ticonderoga Area Farmers’ Market is warm and friendly with farmers and vendors who are approachable. They are pleased to discuss any special requests for product or the opportunity to buy in bulk. If individuals have requests, they are encouraged to speak up as the farmers are pleased to honor requests as best they can.

Fresh local foods are most nutritious and flavorful. Because farmers harvest them at the peak of ripeness, often just hours before the market opens, the consumer benefits from the freshest of the fresh.

Matt Courtright, Executive Director of the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce the market sponsor, is a strong supporter of the buy local campaign.

“The impact of buying local at the farmers’ market benefits more than the farmers; it has a major impact on the environment and bolsters the local economy”, asserted Matt. “There’s no better place to strengthen your local economy than to shop and eat locally, supporting agriculture, commerce and community.  The Ticonderoga Area Farmers’ Market is not only a great place to purchase local products and goods, but also it is a great place for family and friends to convene.”
