Memorial Day Weekend In The Ticonderoga Area 2021 – May Look A Little Different – 2022 Plans Are Already In The Works

Memorial Day Weekend 2021 may not have all of the traditional events happening throughout the Ticonderoga Area but there are still a number of events and opportunities available. In addition to what is planned many area businesses, attractions, and activities are also open and available for you to experience.

Saturday, May 29th – Sunday, May 30th:

Commemorate the Sacrifices of Fallen American Soldiers at Fort Ticonderoga this Memorial Day Weekend May 29-30, 2021

Learn how the American Army in 1777 defended liberty at this iconic site

Fort Ticonderoga will pay tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in service to their country during the American Revolution. Discover the story of the American Army in 1777 and how it rebuilt itself at Ticonderoga to defend liberty during living history programs and demonstrations throughout Memorial Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 29-30, 2021. The Fort hours of operation are 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.  Enjoy narrated scenic boat tours aboard the Carillon and sail the same shores of Lake Champlain that American soldiers and sailors did in 1777. A full line-up of activities and programs offered throughout the weekend include daily tours in the fort, King’s Garden, and museum exhibition spaces; historic trades programs; ongoing living history programs; thrilling weapons demonstrations; the Mount Defiance experience; and the Carillon Battlefield hiking trail. A full schedule can be found at www.fortticonderoga.org. A 10% general admissions discount will be given to active-duty military members with proof of service for this special weekend-long event.

Fort Ticonderoga will hold a solemn virtual ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday May 31st at 11 a.m. to remember fallen American soldiers. The ceremony can be accessed on the Fort Ticonderoga Facebook page. For additional information visit www.fortticonderoga.org or call 518-585-2821.

Please note that the Crown Point Memorial Day celebration will not take place in 2021 but the committee is already planning for the 2022 celebration.

The committee welcomes everyone to commemorate this important holiday in their own way. Perhaps by getting together safely with family and friends, visiting a cemetery, or visiting one of the many open air public memorials, monuments, and parks around the region with your family. And of course, they suggest wearing patriotic attire throughout the weekend.

“The Crown Point Memorial Day Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel all public events for 2021. We hope to be able to provide a grand celebration but alas, when planning began in January, regulations were still strict and the projected growth of the pandemic was unpredictable. With that said, we opted to err on the side of caution and cancel the events which normally draw large crowds and take months of planning to coordinate ahead of time,” shared Jodi Gibbs, Crown Point Memorial Day Chairperson.

Other suggestions to the above events and activities include visiting other historic sites, museums, and monuments including the Ticonderoga Historical Society (Hancock House), Ticonderoga Heritage Museum, Crown Point State Historic Site, Penfield Homestead Museum, Hague Historical Society Museum, Champlain Memorial Lighthouse, the Ticonderoga Fire Museum, and several local memorial monuments. The Ticonderoga Area is home to Small Towns with Big History. Please note, all sites mentioned may not be operating with normal hours. Please contact each site or the Chamber for specific information.

While in the area you can also visit numerous local attractions and access an array of outdoor recreational opportunities. In addition, you can experience many of the wonderful local businesses throughout the Ticonderoga Area.

The Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce does remind visitors and community members to be patient, polite and kind. Local businesses are working hard to provide the best experience possible. The Chamber reminds everyone that they are doing so while juggling governmental regulations and staffing shortages. They welcome you to the Ticonderoga Area, kindness grows here. Reminder to follow all current NYS COVID-19 guidelines.
