The Great American Buy Local Day – Think Local! Shop! Spend! Support!

The Great American Buy Local Day – Think Local! Shop! Spend! Support!

Chambers of Commerce and organizations across America are once again asking communities to come together to support local businesses in their communities. On Thursday, April 7, all Americans will be encouraged to participate in an initiative, The Great American Buy Local Day, to support local businesses, the communities they serve, and millions of people they employ. This is the third time the TACC is participating. This initiative that was launched by Target River Marketing River during the pandemic.

As many of our locally owned businesses return to normal operation it is important for the community to show them their continued support.

Here are some ideas from the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce on how to support local businesses on April 7th and throughout the year:

  • Think Local: Stop in and see all your local businesses have to offer. This is your community and your future! Be sure you know what is available in your community. Visit local retailers, restaurants, and be sure to use local services.
  • Support Local Retailers: Pick up a gift for someone special in your life or treat yourself. A number of local retailers offer outstanding options for all of your retail needs.
  • Support Local Restaurants & Dining Options: If you do not feel like dining in, make it a Take-Out Night: Support your local restaurants. Dine in or order take out and save yourself the hassle of cooking. Don’t forget to tip.
  • Purchase Gift Cards: Buying gift cards are a great way to support your local retailers and restaurants even if you do not need to make a purchase now
  • Be Engaged on Social Media: Follow, Like and Share local businesses social media posts. Check in when visiting and share positive posts. Your actions get them more traction.
  • Memberships: Keep your memberships to gyms, social clubs and non-profits current. Small businesses and organizations depend on your support.
  • Local Services: Be sure you are using local businesses for all of your personal and home service needs.
  • Don’t Cancel – Reschedule: Don’t cancel appointments with services providers, reschedule all of your appointments for a later day. Make sure you are have rescheduled all of your appointments that you may have missed.
  • Refunds: If you were planning on attending an event and now you can’t or something has changed, don’t ask for a refund. Think of it as a donation to your community.

There are many reasons to think local and here are just a few:

  • Your spending will boost and support the local economy, creating a bright future.
  • You can help build, maintain, and strengthen your community.
  • You will be supporting Ticonderoga Area entrepreneurs, businesses, & organizations who are also your friends, neighbors, & fellow community members.
  • It is the ethical and right choice. It encourages community pride.
  • It keeps and recirculates money in your community.
  • Local businesses & organizations reinvest in their community. You will allow them to support local non-profits, events, fundraisers, and the community as a whole.
  • You can get one-of-a-kind products.
  • You will support local jobs and job creation.
  • Save time, money, and gas.
  • To ensure tax dollars stay local.

“We are excited to be coordinating with the Great American Buy Local Day again in 2022. This initiative is a perfect pairing with our ongoing “Think Local” campaign focusing on putting your money where your roots are. Making a choice each and every day to think local is a decision to support your community and our collective future. Each person can make a positive impact and lead by example. We are so lucky and thankful to have strong and supportive local businesses who make the Ticonderoga Area a better place to live, work, and visit,” shared Matthew Courtright – TACC President & CEO.
