The Great American Buy Local – Ways To Support Local Businesses During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Chambers of Commerce and organizations across America are asking communities to come together to support local businesses during the COVID-19 Pandemic. On Tuesday, April 7, all Americans will be encouraged to participate in a new initiative, The Great American Buy Local Day, to support local businesses, the communities they serve, and millions of people they employ.

Locally owned businesses are truly suffering from the economic effects of the Coronavirus and supporting them while remaining safe and healthy is important. You can event support them without leaving your house. Even though Americans need to socially distance themselves, this initiative launched by Target River Marketing River wants all Americans to know that there are still ways to support local businesses by shopping online, buying gift cards, utilizing services of essential companies, referring a friend, or leaving a positive review online.

Here are some ideas from the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce on how to support local businesses during the COVID-19 Pandemic:

  • Gift Cards: Buying gift cards now are a great way to support your local retailers and restaurants. Enjoy a shopping spree or a meal out at a later date!
  • Buy Now Pick Up Later: If you’ve had your eye on a particular item, buy it now and schedule a pick up at a later date.
  • Refunds: If an event you were planning on attending has been canceled, don’t ask for a refund. Think of it as a donation to your community.
  • Make it a Take Out Night: Support your local restaurants. Order take out or delivery and save yourself the hassle of cooking. Don’t forget to tip!
  • Be Engaged on Social Media: Follow, Like and Share local businesses social media posts. Your actions get them more traction!
  • Memberships: Keep your memberships to gyms, social clubs and non-profits current. Small businesses and organizations depend on your support!
  • Don’t Cancel/Reschedule: Don’t cancel appointments with services providers, reschedule all of your appointments for a later day

“We are excited to be coordinating with the Great American Buy Local Day. This initiative is a perfect pairing with our recent “Support Local Businesses During COVID-19” campaign along with our year-round “THINK LOCAL” campaign. While we want everyone to stay safe and healthy (social distance) we encourage everyone to support our local businesses during this time of need. There are may ways you can do this event without leaving your house,” shared Matthew Courtright – TACC President & CEO.
