29 Jan Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market Gearing Up For 2021 Season – Survey Launched To Plan For Market’s Future
The Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) is excited to announce that the 2021 Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market will operate July through September with plans to expand and grow in the future.
For many years, the Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market has enjoyed connecting consumers with farmers and their products. Although the Ticonderoga market has held its own, many markets have failed. In the last 4 years, markets throughout our state have seen market decreases in participation and farmers have suffered falling sales. For this reason, the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce (the market sponsor) and the Farmers Market Committee have decided to conduct a survey for both farmers and consumers with the objective of determining the level of community interest. By understanding the needs of the farmers and vendors, what products and services are wanted as well as how, when and where they are best accessed, the Chamber organizers can best shape the program for 2021 and beyond.
“A farmers market has three main advantages: it gives farmers and vendors the opportunity to market and sell their goods, consumers the access to fresh and local products, and the community a gathering space as well as the chance to create a robust local economy. I am hopeful that there will be pandemic related relief this summer and optimistic that we will see a heightened commitment to the market in 2021,” stated June Curtis, Market Advisor.
The Chamber is proud to sponsor the market with support from the Town of Ticonderoga as well as local businesses. The Chamber acknowledges and wants to continue to support the hardworking farmers and vendors that bring the local products to the community. This survey will be integral in ascertaining the viability of the Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market for 2021 and the future years. The Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market committee looks forward to cultivating the farmers market program to best serve the community and visitors in what is anticipated to be a great season ahead. The Chamber and the market committee encourage you to take the survey seriously and share your thoughts. Survey links can be found on the TACC facebook page, website, and will be available via email.
During this unprecedented time, farmers have continued to plant seeds, tend livestock, make repairs, package products and persevered with their hard work and resourcefulness to get products to market. Vendors have continued to create quality items as well to provide to the consumers. The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced to the community that they must have a commitment to supporting the local economy.
“I am excited to further expand my role within the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, and as the Farmers Market Manager plan for the future of the market. I look forward to working closely with the farmers, vendors, attendees, and of course the market committee. I would like to thank June Curtis for her unwavering support of the market and the Chamber. I will continue to work closely with June and the Chamber not only on the 2021 market plans but our future and potential changes. Please fill out the survey which will truly impact our roadmap for the market as we move forward,” commented Kelly Carey – TACC Office Administrator and Farmers Market Manager.
The Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market is now recruiting farmers and vendors. If you produce a quality food product that is locally grown or farm raised, or are a local vendor of products, you may be interested in participating in the Farmers Market. There are guidelines, requirements, and an application process. If you are hesitant to commit to the full season, a flexible schedule is readily offered to encourage participation.
